This week my favourite thing is being in the city and enjoying all the things that this brings that I have no hope what so ever of having at home.
Things like home delivery of dinner to the door instead of having to drive 20 mins to get take away and driving 20 mins back home and by the time I'm home the meal is not as good as it could have been. This week we had Italian, yum, we could have had Indian, Mexican, or pretty much what ever we felt like.
I love that the local pub is only 1 block away and it's a really really good pub. It means that I can have a drink or twoor three with friends and walk home instead of only having one because I have to drive home.
I can go for walks along the river on a dedicated walking path instead of walking along the side of the road, no footpath and cars and trucks whizzing past at 80kms an hour.
I can walk a couple of mins and buy a coffee, instead of making it myself or driving 5kms to the nearest coffee shop.
I can catch a ferry to the city or to lots of other places, how cool is that? I love catching the ferry.
I can catch a taxi and it only costs a few dollars instead of driving into the city and paying an outrageous $40 for an hour park.
My friends can come and visit me, I'm much closer to them when I'm there and they don't need to pack to stay the night, they can pop in and visit for a few hours.
I can sit at night and look at the city lights instead of staring out into pitch black darkness. I can't see the stars but it's a really nice change.
I may live in paradise but to me having all these things at my doorstep that I haven't had for almost 13 years is my current idea of paradise.
I'm going to be torn when I have to make the decision of where I'm going to live. You can take the girl out of the city but you can't take the city out of the girl.
Mosey on over to Shay's for all the Friday Favourites this week.

Yes, I imagine it will be a HUGE decision for you. Don't know if I would like to live right in the city but we enjoy visiting, walking and traveling on the CityCat.
ReplyDeletecheers
I am a total city girl, I wish I lived more central rather than the edges of the suburbs (most people wouldn't consider where I am suburbs but I used to live a lot further in). I don't know if I could ever cope with being in the country.
ReplyDeleteI love both lifestyles too (city and country) I think we'll be more rural while the kids are young and be more city when they leave home. Then I wouldn't be surprised if we head back out again when we're old and decrepit. You could always just rent and change your mind whenever you see fit!
ReplyDeleteLoved hearing about your city life and its many advantages. I would walk that path every day! What a spectacular view. I'm a bit jealous of all your conveniences!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can do both? Have your rural place and a city place ~ if you can afford it. That could be dicey.
ReplyDeleteMarg, I wish I could join you in that pub for a drink or two or three. :-)
Beautiful pictures, by the way.
And B is an awesome city!! Easy to walk to everything, great art galleries and beautiful botanical gardens, super friendly people. Good for you!! Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteI like Michelle's suggestion. That way you could have the best of both worlds...
ReplyDeleteIm glad you;re excited though about this adventure because often when people change from being out of the city they dont love the city.Sounds like you're having a ball.
If I had to choose I'd probably go for the peace and quiet of the country though.
Tricky decision, sounds like you are at one of those major junctions in life?
ReplyDeleteTough call...but convenience is a great thing...as long as your home can be a peaceful refuge from the city.
ReplyDeleteOooh! I can see the bright lights of the city calling you, Marg! Maybe the renting idea could work? Thanks for the tour of Brissie!
ReplyDeleteBrisbane is a beautiful city....but if I had my choice country every time...even though I live here! Hard decisions!! Shame you can't have a trial run to see if you like it. Visiting is different from living day to day somewhere. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteDid I miss something? Are you moving? I must admit sometimes I'm in kind of a daze when I'm reading blogs and not everything sinks in :)
ReplyDeleteFor me the biggest advantage of not being in a city is peace and quiet and space. The biggest advantage of being in a city is everything on your doorstep. It would be a tough choice.
You make the city sound so delightful, Marg. I've often thought I'd enjoy being able to walk out my door and find the bakery, grocery, and pub a few steps away. ☺ Reality smacks me in the face, and I realize I'm a country girl. ☺ Fabulous favourite! Loved your descriptions, as I felt I was walking/riding right along with you. And I'd meet you in that pub for a drink or three any day! Happy FTF! ☺
ReplyDeleteHaving lived in both rural and urban settings, I've found they each have their advantages and charms. That's a tough call as to which to choose. Thanks for the glimpse of Brisbane.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the old urban conveniences versus rural space and p&q!
ReplyDeleteBrisbane looks beautiful! Yes its a tough one, its nice to have all the mod cons but i think it would be hard giving up such a beautiful paradise as yours! Good luck making a decision!

I'm not a city girl at heart, but I do appreciate all the benefits, and I can see how you would miss it. Does the move involve changing jobs too?
ReplyDeleteCountry vs city, the eternal struggle! Not ever having lived in either a big city or rural area, I can't really say which I'd like best! Glad you're enjoying the other side of paradise.
