I started something new. I know you are all so surprised!
Awhile ago I won a Go Baby from Anorina at Samelia's Mum. I've been wanting to use it but didn't want to start anything new until I finished a couple of WIP's. That's why I've been madly trying to finish those quilts in the last couple of weeks. I was originally going to make something with circles in it, but as I've already made a couple of quilts with circles and curved pieces this year, I thought I'd give HST's a go. I thought of doing something arty but then decided to try something more traditional instead. Yesterday I started playing around with Quilt Pro. I found the Ohio Star #3 block, which is all HST's and came up with this.
This is the design I settled on. There are a couple of mistakes in this copy and I've tweeked it a little since then but it will give you the general idea of the pattern. I had to take a screen shot to get this pic into here so it's a bit weird around the borders.

I had some Hometown fat quarters and found some other fabrics in my stash, and cut lots and lots of HST's and it only took me about 40 mins to cut the strips of fabric and put them through the Go Baby. It would have taken less time if I was a little more organised, but boy, it is soooo much quicker than rotary cutting. The best thing is that the corners are already cut off so I don't have to do that once I've sewn them together. From memory, there are roughly 430 triangles.
The first block, 11 more to go. I'm hoping this will look fabulous on the sofa with my red/off white/black cushions.
Last night I sewed together another starflower. I'm not in love with the centre of this one, but once they are all together in the quilt I think it will be fine.
I'm not sure whether I'll keep doing Pyjama Party Sunday. I've been thinking about stopping it the last few weeks. Will let you know if I decide to keep it going.
Thank you so much to all the new faces, waving and saying "Hi", welcome aboard and hope you enjoy the ride!

Marg, I LOVE your new quilt!! It's going to look awesome!! I wondered when you'd play with the Go Cutter. I love the greys with a touch of red.
ReplyDeleteI am so totally in awe of you ladies who can make such wonderful quilts - if I could make just one small on in a lifetime I'd think I was really really clever!!
ReplyDeleteLove it. It's also ironic that you are making the Ohio star in almost all Ohio State colors. Thanks for the Baby GO! ideas. Can't wait for you to finish this one so I can see it! LOOKS AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteLove the new quilt, the fabrics are gorgeous! Lucky you with the Go cutter, i bet you will get LOTS of use out of it.
ReplyDeleteMarg your new quilt (block) is fabulous!!! The colours are wonderful and what fun with your cute little machine. ( Just so you know, when you are sick of it and are thinking of throwing it out, I will take it off your hands!) I spent more time this weekend cutting than sewing! Who ever thought it was a good idea to cut fabric up into little pieces to sew it all back up again! And your star is really pretty too!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, of course you've started something new! I love it too, really love the neutrals with a pop of red, it's going to be great!
ReplyDeleteSpeachless.....that will be one awesome quilt. Stunning fabric combination and beautifully designed..wow wow wow!!
ReplyDeleteThat's going to be a beautiful quilt, as a matter of fact, quite an elegant one! The more I read about the Go Baby, the more I think I need one myself ;).
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt design and wow the greys with the spot of red- fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I am reading a book at the moment that tells of a knitter who has loads of projects on the go because there is always a certain project for a certain place depending on the complexity or not....quilting must be a bit like that too? Easy projects for when the concentration is low and complex ones like this new one you have started that need quiet and time to put it all together. If the Sunday thing is getting too much just stop it.....we all love you regardless and if you are not spending all your time replying to comments then you will have more time to sew :-)
ReplyDeleteStunning block layout there, I love the grey and white with a splash of red. Very cool! I've been reading lots about these Go Baby cutters, sound like they save a lot of time. Have fun with your new project!
ReplyDeleteOh wow that is going to be s.t.u.n.n.I.n.g! And oh what fun to have a new baby in the house- the kind that saves work not makes it. I'm so jealous - wanna swap for my "make works"? ;)
ReplyDeletePs I'm with Jenni- if Sunday phone kinky is adding more stress, I'm sure we will understand the break. And ps I will also understand if you don't reply to my comments! Go sew :)
Omg I just saw what my phone changed my words to- Damn that autocorrect! It was supposed to say pj linky!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy the heck is it that the changes are always dirty!!
Gah!
Love the new project! The design and colors are both wonderful. Sounds like it will look perfect on your couch :)
ReplyDeleteLove the design and the fabric choices. The first block is beautiful. The sewing always goes faster then the cutting, so you should be done in no time.
ReplyDeleteFrom Quilt Pro Version 4 and forward you can go to the file menu and click on "export". Then you can choose a file fomat like jpeg or bitmap. That should save the file as an image and let you post designs and blocks just like a picture.
I love the quilt you have designed and congrats on winning the cutting machine. I have been wondering about trying Quilt Pro as it will work on my mac (being a mac, not pretending to be a pc). How do you like it?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you won a Baby Go - good for you.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks great. A black and white quilt with a dash of colour has been on my list for a long while. There was one at the festival of quilts but it was done with lime green and it was too much. Your block looks perfect.
Oh wow Margie Pots! Love your new project. I love traditional quilts - they always look so darn cosy. Love your choices of fabric too. I absolutely HATE cutting - I'm just no good with a ruler and rotary, plus it can be pretty back breaking so lucky lucky you with your baby go - what a time saver that will be - I even get miffed that jelly rolls don't seem to be perfectly sized - what's that all about - they should be perfect! Completely understand about pj Sunday - can I still leave your cool logo on my side-bar though, have got rather attached to it and it's a quick link to your blog too.
ReplyDeleteIm going to have to run off and buy a baby Go if they make cutting that easy.
ReplyDeleteI love the blocks for the new quilt and what's one more project ? You have to work on something you're interested in to keep it fun. Anyway there is no time limit on finishing projects (unless like me you leave them till the last minute and are planning for them to be a gift)
Love the paper pieced star!
You've picked out some lovely fabrics for your new project. I can't wait to see how it all comes together.
ReplyDeleteThere is something very exciting about planning a new project. I love the colours you have chosen. The 'go baby' seems a very welcome addition to the family and you don't have to get up to it in the night....unless you want to cut out a new quilt of course.
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt design and that it is all HSTs. They are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteLove that quilt you are making and sorry I am not able to link to you today - just found out too late I guess! Not in PJs though - jods instead!
ReplyDeleteFar out! That design looks very complicated to me! You designed it YOURSELF ??? !!
ReplyDeleteThe materials you have chosen look great and I'm sure they'll do the trick.
Cheers
Helen
PS
Lovely rain on and off all day here.
