WIP Wednesday

I'm back on the proverbial bike. It's been almost 5 weeks since I last used my sewing machine. I completely lost my sewing mojo. Yesterday I made the big decision to do something, anything to try and get back into sewing again. It worked, yay.
First off I cut up some Hope Valley, Hometown  and some solids into eleventy million 3 inch and 3 1/2 inch squares for a scrappy chevron quilt. It seemed like that many!

Sorry it was very dull here today and I'm not used to taking photos in such poor light, so the colours in some of the photos aren't great.

Thanks goes to Shay who suggested making a Jelly Roll 1600 or Race quilt with her. As usual I procrastinated and took forever to decide which jelly roll to use. Shay had already finished her top, before I even picked out the roll.

I found the remnants of this Pure jelly roll in the bottom of a drawer and had a lightbulb moment.

I made this quilt top back in July 2010, it has been a UFO ever since. The jelly roll race would be perfect to make as the backing for it, and I'll have a two sided quilt.
Of course I can't do something without tweaking it a little. I saw this on flickr and came up with my own version.

Annoying spots and diamond print near the bottom where the fabric cut and the prints don't line up, grrr.

It didn't take long to sew it together and today I've basted, quilted it and I'm about to sew on the binding.

What a comeback after 5 weeks of nothing! I sure hope it lasts.

  6. I think you are right, like you said to Shay - she stole your mojo! But you are pulling it back and this is going to be a great two sides quilt.

  7. Well, I love the cool colors you're working with in general :)

I hope your quilt mojo will return soon. Your quilts are amazing. But as I'm sure we all know the creativity comes and goes always. Only one thing is sure to spark it: A fabric shopping spree (Doctors order really).

  8. Hi Marg, Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog. I am glad I found you....you are hilarious! I love the ignoring/possibly given up category - I have a box full of those.

Your quilt looks great, I love a pieced backing.

  10. Good for you. I like the twist to the jelly roll race top - it took me a while to work out what you were on about with the spots and diamonds comment. Things like that don't really bother me much. Only once when I had a half yard set of tufted tweets which was very off line as I knew I would loose so much fabric if I straighted it up to the design.

  18. I really love the jelly roll race quilt. I haven't tried one, but I think your's with the squares might get me moving in that direction. You have been very productive! I'm glad I'm not the only one who sews in spurts.

  19. Stripey back with solid blocks is quite striking. I never do buy those jelly rolls but I think I just might now.

  20. Eleventy million pieces is going to make a very big quilt. Are you planning to blanket the whole of Brisbane with that thing?

You know I love the jelly roll race top/back. It’s gorgeous. I think we should do another one of these. They were so much fun.
