Favourite Things Friday

My favourite thing this week is what is happening in Brisbane this weekend.
The River Fire Festival. We stayed in Brisbane last year and I'm going again this year. We usually make it a family affair and I meet up with my sister and her family.

All along the river there are pontoons of fireworks which are sychronised. The bridge below, is the centre stage for the fireworks.
When we go to the festival in Brisbane we stay at a hotel along the river and we have fabulous views from the hotel room. If the weather is great we can go down to the river bank and watch it. If the weather is cold or wet we stay in the room and enjoy the show in comfort.

A couple of not so great photos from last year, taken on my phone from the hotel room, as I forgot my camera! Crossing my fingers that I remember my camera this year.
I'm planning to meet up with friends while I'm down there so it should be a pretty good Saturday night.

Linking up with Shay at Quilting In My Pyjamas so hop on over there to see everybody's favourites this week.

Update on Exercise

I spoke too soon.

I am pretty much 100% positive I've either broken or chipped the bone in my middle toe on my right foot.  This happened during Monday's aquarobics class. I can pinpoint exactly when it happened, I tripped over my toes, yeah I know, how the heck do you do that in the water, I did, and it hurts a lot.

Symptoms, it's throbbing, my toe nail is not exactly how it should be, (I'll spare you the gory details), and my toe is swollen.

So far my record is 100% strike rate, every time I have exercised in the last 12 months  it has been detrimental to my health.

I'm thinking about taking bets on what will happen at tomorrow morning's aquarobics class.

Yes I am going to go.

I'm a glutton for punishment, either that, or I'm an idiot!

Tuesday Tidbits (and tails)

I'm making up for yesterday's post. I suppose I could have eked out all of this over a number of posts, but I'm finding it easier and quicker doing it this way, which gives me more time to quilt and crochet, and that's a good thing!

The backing for Strawberries and Champagne (pre-pressed).

I used most of what was leftover from piecing the front, 12 inch squares and a vertical and horizontal line of 2" x 6" strips.

Bitchypoo has sort of tidied part of her room. She bought the comforter and a couple of the cushions on sale with money she has saved from her part time job and she commandeered a couple of my cushions.  The rest of her room still looks like a clothes bomb has exploded but at least her bed is made and looks ok.

Friday we drove down to Brisbane to see Wicked on Friday evening, it was fabulous, I spent half the evening drooling over the fabrics in the costumes, looking at colour combinations. I especially loved one of the Emerald City costumes. Unfortunately I can't find an image of it.

We stayed in Brisbane Friday night and came back Saturday. Instead of shopping we opted to go to the Museum and had a look at the Science Centre. It's quite small compared to others we've been to but it was fun.

A couple of photos of my "angel" pulling faces.

On the way home I picked up Fanny Pfaff as she was back from brain surgery and now should be like brand new. I haven't set her up yet as I'm really enjoying using the Jem.
Quilting has begun on the Strawberries and Champagne quilt, it's going ok, not quite as well as I hoped but it looks ok, and as the pattern is so busy the mistakes are not going to stand out, phew (I hope!).

Beautiful morning light and little wispy clouds this morning.

I've picked these for the next monochromatic challenge - guess what colour, lol!

This gorgeous stack of deliciousness is for something I'm designing. Cross your fingers for me please that what is in my head will work and look just as good if not better once it is pieced.

Finally, we can't have a Tuesday post without my wonderful Bailey.

This is his current favourite spot to chill out when he's resting from being Keeper of the Quilts.
Excuse the mess in the background, that's my pile of stuff that's ready to go out to the recycling and rubbish bins.

A problem and a cheer me up.

When I came back from Fiji, I checked google reader and I had 603 unread posts. I also had a trillion unread posts in my RSS feed. I have been trying really hard to catch up, but it's just about impossible to read plus comment on them. I apologise that I haven't been commenting on your posts, but I am madly trying to catch up so that I will be able to start commenting again by the end of the week.
What it does tell me though is I have far too many blogs that I read, and I must spend an awful lot of time during the week sitting at the computer catching up.  I am going to have to bite the bullet and cut back on the number of blogs I read, but where do I start?  I read them because I really enjoy them.

In the meantime, this should really brighten your day. I have seen this before, quite awhile ago, but I still get a good laugh out of it. It is heartening to see, that I am not alone!

I do have a life

On Saturday night I travelled to Brisbane for the Comedy Festival.  I went with a girlfriend who had free tickets to see Peter Helliar.  I must admit I wasn't too enthused before hand, as I didn't think he was particularly funny on the TV programme Rove, however we were very pleasantly surprised, he is very funny and much better live.  We had a great night, except for the hour and a half drive back home in the rain, grrrr. I was really miffed that we had missed Adam Hills,  a very funny comedian who has performed all over the world, who had been here the week before. Maybe we will get to see him next year. We were also planning to have dinner in Brisbane, but there was hardly any parking left so we grabbed it as soon as we found the venue and then it was too far to walk to any of the fantastic New Farm restaurants, another grrrrrr.  There is a restaurant at the venue but it was closed for a private function, gggrrrrr again, so we made do with a gin and tonic and a shared bowl of chips with aioli...............so much for my diet.

Monday night I went to see Remember Me with another girlfriend. (I am so lucky that I have all these girlfriends I can go out to the movies etc. Especially as the calibre of men around here is not so good, they are either too old, gay or married. Not that I am looking or anything, just wanted to point that out in case you were wondering.)  I digress, back to the movie....... I had not seen any reviews of Remember Me, and had no idea what it was about.  I am not a huge fan of Robert Pattinson, he is too dark and broody for me.  However it was a really thought provoking movie and had a twist at the end. I can't decide whether to recommend it or not, as I was harrumphing during the movie and getting annoyed with some of the acting etc, but then the ending was mind blowing and made up for all the bad bits.  You can see I am a fabulous movie reviewer, can't you, maybe I should try that instead, don't spit out your coffee in amazement.
