A catch up

I had a great week last week, I missed posting Tuesday tidbits last week (and again this week) as I was having a nice well deserved break on the Gold Coast staying with my friends. We had a lovely time, I took my camera this time and took a couple of photos but I was too busy having a good time to remember to take many.
I also took my crochet with me to keep me occupied, I didn't even look at it let alone get it out of the bag.
I was forced to sing karaoke, I had to, and to my surprise I can sing, I'm never going to be another Beyonce, believe me, ha ha, but I was pleasantly surprised, who would have thought it would take me __ years to find that out.

Some of our time was spent sitting next to the pool having the odd drink or three, that's how I found the courage to sing not sound like a cat howling.

I brought home lots of fresh eggs laid by these girls and their friends.

I've been trying to work on a design for a new quilt, it's taken me ages going through my stash and then looking for inspiration on the net and in my quilting and art books. A tiny seed of an idea is germinating, I've laid out the fabrics and I think it's going to look ok but as usual I'm worried that what is in my head and what I've doodled is not necessarily how it is going to look when I'm making it. These are two of the fabrics.

The joys of living in paradise, humidity. When I was going through my fat quarter stash that I had carefully stored in Ikea boxes, I found that some of them smelled a little musty. The board in the bottom of two of the boxes had started to go mouldy, fortunately there is a fabric base between the board and my fabric so none of the fabric had gone mouldy, they just smelled a bit musty so I spent the weekend washing, drying and ironing lots and lots of fat quarters.  I had kept the give away fat quarters in a different spot so they are still pristine unwashed and smell fine (just in case you are wondering whether I'm giving away musty old fabric!!!!  Thank you everybody for joining in on the give away, there's still a few days left to comment and be in the running. A couple of people asked me why I am having the give away. No special reason, I've been blogging for ages now and haven't had a give away before. I have some beautiful fat quarters that I just don't think I'll ever get around to using and I'm excited to be going interstate to visit two lovely friends,  Julie who escaped after she helped me baste my quilts, and I'm really looking forward to being arrested in Adelaide when I visit Shay.

I have been cutting out pieces for a Raw Edge Circle Quilt, the tutorial can be found here  at Cluck Cluck Sew. I'm using  28 different Moda Fresh Palette and Bliss fabrics.

Shay at Quilting In My Pyjamas also made this quilt last year which inspired me to have a go.

I used this little beauty, an Olfa Rotary Circle Cutter,  to cut out the circles, it made it so easy, it's worth it's weight in gold!

Notice brighter colour palettes this time, I still haven't cut into my Kaffe fabric yet, that I bought almost a year ago!

I've been putting off making the backing for my dad's quilt, I just can't muster up the enthusiasm to make it. I'm going to need to do it soon though, or I'll run out of time.

PS I may or may not be adding a little extra Aussie something to the give away parcels if  someone from overseas is a lucky winner, so are you feeling lucky Cynthia? he he he

  1. If I win you can send me bananas.

OOh cant wait to see the circles quilt going together. It's going to look sublime.

You've got my curiosity piqued with the other fabrics...

  3. Looks like you had a fun few days away. What song did you sing at karoeke? I always end up singing ABBA songs. Looks like you've got some fun sewing to do. I'm curious about what you'll make with the bird and paris fabrics. Your circles will look great too. I've got one of those cutters and I love it!!

  4. Ugh! The joys of humidity indeed. What a pain.
I've been keeping my eye on those circle cutters. I just need a reason to justify actually buying one.

  5. I am so envious that you are able to sit by a swimming pool. I could deal with the humid weather and the musty smell if I could have a drink or three with you by the pool.

I had hoped I would save enough money this month with Mrs. P to be able to afford a trip to Australia and quilt with you and Mrs. P, and get arrested if that came up! But alas, it doesn't look like it will happen.

I love all of the fabrics and can't wait to see the quilt with the circles.

I do not usually win things, but I am hoping to win these fat quarters. I say little prayers every night that I win and now will begin to say bigger prayers that the "something extra" will not be Vegemite!
