Grey skies and sunshine

My first finish for 2012.

I'm thrilled with it.

I used the Cluck Cluck Sew Raw edge circle quilt tutorial for this quilt. I love this pattern, it's easy and gives a great result.

Despite the initial problems that I had pulling the fabrics, I think it has come together really well.

The backing is a flannel I bought online from Quilt Expressions, they were so quick to send it and it when it arrived, it matched perfectly. How often do you get a perfect match when you buy sight unseen, online?
The binding is from the Sweetwater Hometown range.Flannel backing and a peek at the quilting

I quilted the circles with a spiral and practiced a large meander on the background between the circles.

None of the fabric was pre washed. I'm not crazy, I made sure I used only quality fabric, but threw in 6 colour catchers when I washed it, they came out a pale beige colour and there's not a sign of bleeding or running.

  2. No wonder you are so proud of it, it is lovely. Great combination of colours and very modern too. I bet the new owners are thrilled.
I'm interested to hear you wash your quilts and put them through the dryer. I always pre-wash my fabrics but never wash the finished article.
    Cheers
    PS. Sooooo muggy today

  3. Fabulous quilt. I love the colours, especially as the combination would never occur to me on my own.

  4. I adore that quilt (as you know !) and if the recipients don't love it I can find a home for it here !

Totally right choice to pull some of those earlier fabrics and replace them ....

  11. This one is my absolute favourite of the quilts you have made!! except maybe your Japanese one, but as orange is my favourite colour this one wins by a smidge. Beautiful work Marg, this one was for your friend wasn't it? I think i remember you saying that it was not your colours :-)

  12. Fabulous! Absolutely fabulous!

I've been noticing the raw edge technique and have always been afraid it would be ravely and fragile. How did it wash?

    1. It washed fine. THis is the third quilt I've made with raw edges on the front and I haven't had any problem with them. Of course, they are going to fray around the edges but they haven't frayed past the sewing line.
