Here are some flowers, as it's Friday.
This is an orchid I bought from my friend J, who owns a plant nursery. It's sitting in my living room, on the floor in a white pot.
I wanted to show you another orchid, sitting by the window, as the colour of the orchid echoes the colour in the window, but I have tried and tried and it just doesn't make a "pretty" photo, so here are the best shots.
When we moved into this house, there were three leadlight windows, which I really didn't like and I was going to replace them with louvres. 11 yrs on they are still here and I am so glad I didn't replace them as they are unique, and now I really like 2 of them, one still doesn't grab me, but it's in a spot where it's not obvious.
This one is the one in the photos above and taken from outside. It is eucalypt leaves and flowers (gumnuts).
This is the one I am not fond of, and it was hard to take a decent photo as the cat thingy is right outside the window, on the verandah.
It represents bottlebrush, another Australian native.
This is opposite the previous one, I like this as it has white flowers. I think it is supposed to be wattle, although I don't think I have ever seen white wattle.
The last two windows were originally in the kitchen, there is an alcove and these are on either side of the alcove. They were flush with the bench top. Two years ago I wanted to renovate the kitchen, and also move it as it was right inside the entrance. Much to everyone's shock and horror I swapped the kitchen with the living area, nobody could understand why I would do that. It looks fabulous now. As it is a high set home, it was easy to move the plumbing etc, so didn't cost a fortune to move. They are now either side of the sofa. I am so glad I did it and everyone has agreed that it was a brilliant idea, even if I do say so myself.
It is nice to be reassured that you are on the right track isn't it :-)
ReplyDeleteI like all your windows, they add lovely character to your house. Up here in FNQ our wattle is so pale it is almost white.
I live in a block home (cyclone proof) easy to maintain but no character and for me the inside being unrendered reminds me of a toilet block.....lucky the outside is so stunning and inviting :-)
Have a great weekend!
Can't wait to see your floral bound runner!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the stained glass windows--all of them. I used to make stained glass, and truly, I've never seen one I didn't like.
The stained glass windows are really stunning. Your orchids are also. My neighbor in Miami used to raise them. I have always been afraid to try them. I have heard they are hard to grow.
ReplyDeleteMy mother switched her formal living room and formal dining room a few years ago - it looks really good. It is now easier for her to look out the front window while sitting on the sofa.
Would love to see more photos of your home!
Oh your stained glass windows are lovely!
ReplyDeleteIn the future Im going to set up something called Favourite Things Friday and your windows would make the perfect FTF post.
Since I am psychic Im predicting you'll post about them in July 2011...lets see if Im right.
