Favourite Things Friday

The totally awesome Mrs P at QIMP started Favourite Things Friday, I love this idea as it makes me think of the positive things when it is often so easy to think of the negative.  See Not Happy, Jan  post.

Crocheting and Quilting

Over the years I have tried all sorts of different crafty things.
Macrame (that was a long long long time ago)
Cross stitch
Embroidery
Sewing
Silversmithing
Knitting
Spinning
Weaving
Scrap booking
Jewellery making
Probably some more that I can't remember.

Two things I took up a long long time ago, dropped them, and now thanks to the wonderful world of blogging in 2010 I have found a renewed love of them, and this time I adore creating things so much I can't see me stopping either of them.

They are crocheting and quilting. Two very different crafts but I love them both equally.  Crocheting is great as something portable to do anywhere and I find it quick and very therapeutic (except for the sewing in of the ends). Quilting I enjoy sitting at home and using beautiful fabrics to create something out of an idea, an inspiration.

I always used to find excuses to spend my days out of the house but since returning to these lovely crafts I find I have learned to enjoy and embrace being at home where I can be creative and also very happy.

The infamous snowball blocks

The best thing of all, through crocheting and quilting,  I have found/connected with, some truly wonderful people who I am privileged to call my friends.

  2. Lovely post! You've made some truly stunning things. Talk about eye candy!

And you're right, who knew that this shared love of the creative process would blossom into such wonderful friendships? It's a double gift!

Marg, when I click on your FTF link on QIMP's page, it takes me to her page instead of yours. But heck, this is the first week, I got my link right the first time. I kept forgetting to change the link, and leaving the old one in there.

  3. Marg, I love all of your work. I am especially fond of the granny square that has a grey background. Your kitties are so sweet and curious! I am glad that I have gotten to know you and you have inspired me to work on my crochet.

  4. Wow, you've made some great stuff! I especially like those green/gray quilt blocks. Your first crocheted pillow pic looks a lot like the wave runner quilt pattern. So cool!

  8. Beautiful work! I can crochet but it takes too long to finish a blanket and I'm too impatient. One day, I'll start another blanket again but for now, I'm content to enjoy looking at other's work and yours is just beautiful.

  11. Great body of work there you have been busy. I use to crochet as a girl semi successfully, but I have given up all woollen craft I don't have room for it as my fabric stash is out of control.

  12. Marg, I loved reading your list of creative endeavors! I've done quite a few on your list! Silversmithing sounds like so much fun. I'd like to learn how to do stained glass windows. But enough about me. I want to say how much I admire your work, especially your crochet. It is just beautiful. The throw you did n white, tan and that sort of dusty blue-green (6th up from the bottom) is so gorgeous. And I love those squares in blues at the bottom. Your snowballs are fun too.

Thanks so much for a lovely FTF!

I think my favorite is in your header picture!! It's very Pottery Barn-ish, especially the background.

  15. These are my two favourite crafts at the moment as well. I learned years ago to read all my crochet patterns in reverse as I'm left handed but apart from that it is so easy and as you say portable.
