When you think you have made a mistake.......

When you think you have made a mistake, you probably have............

The offending row

Note to self:
When you are sewing all your blocks together for the quilt top and you think you might have made a mistake....STOP, and check, I mean really really check it properly. Don't just think, oh it should be ok. Because if you don't check it properly chances are that when you have finished sewing all those lovely blocks together to make your quilt top they are going to be in the wrong order, and it is going to really really really bug you.  In fact, bug you so much that you have to unpick all those beautiful straight seams, that have been neatly ironed open, and re sew them in the correct order. What would have taken a couple of minutes at the most and might mean unpicking one, maybe two seams, now, involves unpicking a whole row from the middle of the quilt top and then unpicking the blocks in that row,and sewing them all back together in the correct order.

I hope I learn from this mistake.

It's all  better now.

A scruffily quilt, pattern from Moda Bakeshop , I love the colours, the design of the fabric, Rural Jardin by French General. yummm.

I am very happy with it since fixing my error. Now for the fun part, basting, not. Then on to quilting, binding, and washing it to make it all crinkly, yay!

  3. Love this quilt. You're knocking em out like hot cakes lately.

I'm happy that you're happy too about the unpicking and re-finishing.

  4. I have done this many times when sewing granny squares together in crochet although I think it's easier to fix them than with a quilt. Even with the mistake your quilt is beautiful - love it!

  5. I couldn't see the fault but I am not a quilter..I have to say that it does look better in the last photo after you have fixed it but I have no idea why :-) I would have unpicked it as well as I am a perfectionist and my own worst enemy!

  6. Come on then, explain why that row was so offensive? Well done for unpicking so quickly though, when I had to do it with my strings I put it aside in a huff for weeks.

  7. LOL! Error? What error? In any case, I'm glad you're pleased with it now.

It is a beautiful quilt. Really love those fabrics. Some of these more modern designs are beginning to grow on this traditional quilter.

  8. Marg, it is beautiful. Sorry about the bit of unpicking, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm exactly the same way. I love this quilt!

  9. I couldn't see any error either, but YOU saw it and always would. So good thing you fixed it and can have an extra satisified smile when it is all finished. It's a beauty!

  10. Thank you for all your lovely comments, I had mixed up a couple of the squares which then meant there were two beige coloured blocks next to each other and then there were two blocks with the same print, but different colourway next to each other.
I can be somewhat anal when it comes to layout, and it would have driven me nuts. Once upon a time I would have thrown it in the corner and would have become a UFO.

  11. I'm impressed that you did, in fact, face it head-on and just fix it. Actually, I'm impressed at any sewing ability - I'm not good. Not good at all. I love seeing your projects, and this one is beautiful.
Can't wait to see it "crinkly".
