Favourite Things Friday

It's time for FTF again,  the week goes so fast doesn't it, I especially look forward to everyone's favourites each Friday.

One of my favourite things in my house is an oil burner. There are so many oils to choose from, which can be mixed and matched to suit your mood or need.  They don't just make the house smell lovely, they are great to use for calming, motivating, refreshing, relaxing or soothing.

Hmm motivating, I really should burn the Motivating blend a bit lot more often! I also have blends, Productivity and Focus, I should be burning them 24/7.

Some oils can be expensive initially but as only a couple of drops are needed,  they last a long time,  much better value for money than flowers (for scent, unless they come from your garden) or scented candles.

My favourite floral scented oil is Rose Geranium, followed closely by Jasmine, or sometimes I like to mix citrus oils, like lemongrass and grapefruit.  In my burner today is Tranquil and Calm which is a blend of Lavender, Rose Geranium, Bergamot and Rosewood.  Christmas is coming soon (sorry for the reminder) and there are some lovely Christmasy oils scented with cinnamon and cloves.

A bonus to burning oils are the absolutely beautiful burners that are available, the one above at the top of the post and this one are my favourites.

Ahh there are actually two bonuses to using my oil burner, the other one is, it helps me use more of the 800 (I'm not joking) Ikea tea lights that I have in my cupboard. Don't ask, and no I didn't steal them.

So take a look at Mrs P at Quilting In My Pyjamas to see what everyone is posting about this week.

  1. I use to have an oil burner but I would get complaints from the male in the house so stopped using it. But I love lavender for its calming properties.

  2. The tea light story sounds like it might be interesting.

Where do you get the oils and burners?

  3. Kate I have bought my burners from home decor shops, I'm not sure where you would get them in the States but most stores should have at least one type. Just checked online for you, The Body Shop has them and try Amazon. If you do a search for - aromatherapy essential oils - you should be able to find a seller of most of the oils I have mentioned. My oil burners are from Thailand. Sorry I can't be of more help. If anyone else has any other suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

  4. I also used to have an oil burner but it has gone long ago. Now
I have a scented candle that I always light and leave burning in the bathroom when visitors are coming. I do like the scent drifting through the house.
    Cheers

  5. Ooh! I don't have an oil burner, but I think I'd like one! :o) Scents can trigger DH's migraines; however, cinnamon doesn't seem to bother him. I'll have to look for an oil burner! Thanks for sharing. Happy FTF! :o)

  6. I used to use my burners all the time and then a few years ago when I decorated and packed them away they never came back out. I'll have to go looking for them this weekend. I didn't realise until I read this how much I missed them!
    Doh!

  7. Those are very pretty, and I'm imagining how nice they smell. Seems like a nice alternative to candles. I'm going to have to check these out. Always looking for a pleasant scent, especially in winter when the house is closed up.

  8. so true, "P" - I love having something else to smell besides a closed-up house!

thanks for sharing - we have a similar thing here, scentsy candle burners - I think that's their name. Anyway, you can burn the scented wax in a warmer that you plug into the outlet.

    Have a great weekend, Marg!

  9. It seems you have inspired many Marg!

I have burners somewhere but like a lot of things they got packed away when Little P got mobile. Someday I may be able to drag them out again (surely by the time he's 12 he'll be over the putting everything in his gob stage )

Love dyour post. I'll have to look for some nice oils again for the "someday" . I love the gentle scents of different oils wafting through the house.

  10. Like several of our other visitors I too used to use oil burners but they seem to have got lost along the way - thanks for reminding me about them I must look out for some more and get some oils to use with them. I used to love rose geranium too!

  11. Oh yes Rose Geranium and Lavender....my favourites as well!!

I always forget to top up the water in the burner and burn the bowl :-( Now the boys are older I should find one with a deep dish. I always have a cotton ball with Rose geranium in the bedroom for sleeping and I put lavender in the kids bath along with camomile flowers...one can always live in hope! :-)
