Favourite Things Friday

It's Friday again, and this week my favourite thing is the self cleaning oven in my kitchen. Not a very exciting favourite, but when I think of how much time, elbow grease and chemicals (because bi carb and vinegar never work as well as chemicals) I save,  it's a really huge deal.

I've been really slack and haven't cleaned it in f.o.r.e.v.e.r. In fact it was so long I had to get out the instruction manual. That's when I had an oops moment, as it said to clean every 2-3 months.

In my defence it wasn't really really grotty.  I wish I had thought to take a before shot.

It's been such a long time because all summer it was so hot and humid. The oven pushes a lot of heat out into the kitchen when it's cleaning as it heat up to 500C. Now it's winter and relatively cold it was perfect timing, nice and toasty in the kitchen for a few hours.

All nice and clean again, not a mark in sight on the oven walls or glass door, yippee.

Linking to Mrs P at Quilting In My Pyjamas who always has an interesting favourite.

  3. Wow, your oven looks brand new! My self cleaning cycle doesn't work that well - of course, I'm a little overdue to use it too :)

  4. DH won't let me use that nifty feature on my oven. I think he's afraid the house will ignite or something. LOL Your oven looks fabulously clean! Happy FTF! ☺

  6. Are you sure this isn't a photo of a NEW oven? Gosh, I don't think mine looked like that ever...I even have stains that won't come off with the cleaning cycle...My racks are like yours though...and you are right elbow grease is the way to do it. Don't you feel good now after a job well done!

  8. What I really want is a self cooking oven- that also does the shopping and preps dinner then spits it out as I walk in the door from work.

Oven cleaning is one of those jobs we all avoid. Good on you for taking the bull by the horns. Feels good doesnt it? Your oven looks sparkly clean and just like new!

  9. Seriously, did it get that clean just with the self-clean function? If so, that is awesome. I absolutely loathe cleaning the oven, it sucks. Closely followed by defrosting the fridge which is archaic but that's what happens when you rent a house with an old fridge. Next oven I buy is going to be one of those!

  10. I echo the other thoughts....my self-cleaning feature doesn't work as well as yours does, either. But, judging from the outside - your oven is way nicer than mine (which is now ten years old).

And, Rob freaks when I self-clean my oven. He chokes and gags and makes a big show of all of the noxious fumes swirling around our house. big baby :)

  11. Thats amazing how clean it gets! We do most cooking outside, we cook all the roasts and greasy stuff in the outside oven so the inside oven doesnt get grotty and i just use the vacuum to get the crumbs!

  13. Anything that helps the "domestic Goddess" is a great FTF by me. I must have had help in a previous life as I love everything clean and tidy....I just want some else to do it. LOL!

  18. Love it! I'm pretty bad about cleaning my oven; perhaps I should see if it has this self-cleaning feature you speak of.

And next, they should invent a self-cleaning fridge.
